‘reverie/riposte’ is grounded in the everyday reality of womenswear; eclectic, versatile, and highly personal. Influenced by nineteenth century France, and impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte, who reflected his romanticised fondness for the everyday throughout his work. In this collection, Caillebotte acts as a bridge between everyday reality, and nineteenth century France. The collection reflects the diverse and ever-changing womenswear landscape, with a focus on comfortable silhouettes that draws on the mosaic of women’s fashion that exists in circulation today. The collection aims to elevate these everyday styles with artistic and historical influences, using the sentiment and era of Caillebotte’s work to influence and connect the designs. Adaptability is emphasised, with a focus on the idea that what comprises womenswear is much more than the clothes - it’s a declaration of personal identity through which one navigates the world.
